Tuesday, Feb. 7 – Thursday, Feb. 9
9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Explore the Power of You in this interactive learning area where attendees will explore the latest trends in education. From makerspaces to breakout rooms and programming to explorative learning, participants will share in this peer-to-peer, network-rich presentation area. Explore the latest tools and trends for engaging students and creating learning environments that excite students and teachers.

Special Activities Taking Place in TCEA17 YOUniverse

Tuesday, Feb. 7

9 a.m. – noon Makerspace Showcase
Come for a half-day of makerspace learning, growing, and building and experience a variety of hands-on activities.
1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. BreakoutEDU Immersion
Adam Bellow, Co-Founder of BreakoutEDU, will introduce and explore the concept behind the craze. Attendees will be invited to participate in a BreakoutEDU challenge and learn how to implement the activity themselves for multiple grade and content areas.

 

Wednesday, Feb. 8

5 – 7 p.m. PokemonGO in Action
Join in the fun of PokemonGO. Designed for pro and novice players, we will explore local Poke-Stops and battle it out for gyms, points, and prizes.

Poster Sessions

Tuesday, Feb. 7 – Thursday, Feb. 9
The Poster Pavilion will showcase multiple demonstrations and sharing opportunities in a relaxed come-and-go environment. Explore and engage one-on-one or in small groups with the pavilion presenters. The pavilion is designed to encourage meaningful conversations regarding idea, implementation, tools, and projects that you can immediately incorporate in your classroom, campus, or district.

Unite with edtech enthusiasts, like yourself, in the social media and connection hub of TCEA 2017. Featured presenters and recognized edtech experts are scheduled throughout the week to share their favorites tools, techniques, tips, and tricks.  Whether you’re new to social media or a trailblazer with more followers than some celebrities, this is the spot for integrating social media into your repertoire of educational resources.


Educational Technology Day at the Capitol

Tuesday, Feb. 7
8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Edtech enthusiasts will receive a briefing on the issues that pertain to educational technology and learn tips and tricks for effectively communicating with legislators and their staff members. TCEA will set up meetings with the offices of each participant’s senators and representatives. Transportation to the Texas Capitol will be provided for meetings with your legislators, which may be scheduled individually or in groups. Advance registration is required in addition to a fee of $15 that covers transportation and lunch at the Capitol.


Convention Social “Get Powered Up”

Thursday, Feb. 9
5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
The Thursday social is the must-attend event at the convention, and this year we’ve moved it to a new, more convenient time! Let your hair down and power up with live music, great fun, and fabulous door prizes. There will be games, contests, and energetic tunes, all from the Live Music Capital of the World – Austin, Texas.


TCEA Educator Awards

This invitation-only reception honors the outstanding educators recognized with TCEA Educator Awards and Scholarships for 2016-2017. TCEA members are encouraged to apply or nominate deserving peers by the fall deadline. SIGs provide networking and learning opportunities for educators in similar positions. Joining a SIG provides an outlet for sharing challenges and problem-solving among peers.
